Overview
Vettisfossen is a true highlight on the fjord mountain route and a great opportunity to experience one of the most impressive creations of nature here in Norway.Description
Protected by royal edict since 1924 and named after the nearby Vetti farm, the waterfall holds the title of “tallest free-falling waterfall in Europe and in Norway”. In fact, we’re talking about a single, vertical drop, entirely free-falling, not regulated and flowing with a considerable volume in a contrasting natural scenery. The water cascades down 275 meters.
Hiking recommendation:
In order to reach Vettisfossen by foot, we recommend to follow first Vettis Road (Vettisvegen), a road which was built in the 70’s as a massive volunteer project what gave it the local name of “Folkevegen”, translated the people’s road. After 5 kilometers, you reach Vetti Gård which is an old farm where you can have a break on your way to the waterfall. After the farm, the trail splits in two. Follow the one going to the left direction Utla, the river that gave the name to the valley, to get to the foot of the waterfall.
