Travel from Oslo into the snowy landscapes of Beitostølen, at the edge of Jotunheimen—Norway’s highest mountain range—before continuing west toward the dramatic fjords and finishing in Bergen.
Journey comfortably by bus through long valleys, frozen lakes, and snow-covered mountains. Upon arrival in Beitostølen, a charming mountain resort, you can choose from a variety of winter activities. Depending on the day, options may include dogsledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or ice fishing—offering a true taste of Norwegian winter life.

As you continue west, you’ll notice a striking change in scenery. The deep snow gradually gives way to milder fjord landscapes as you descend toward sea level. Here, a new world of steep mountains and narrow fjords unfolds. Enjoy a scenic cruise through the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord, one of the most beautiful fjords in Norway, surrounded by towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls. You’ll also experience the famous Flåm Railway, one of the world’s steepest and most spectacular train journeys, offering unforgettable views at every turn.

Day 1: Travel From Oslo to Beitostølen 

Your journey begins with a scenic bus ride from Norway’s capital, Oslo, into the mountains to the winter resort of Beitostølen, nestled at the edge of Jotunheimen—home to Norway’s highest peaks. Along the way, enjoy the changing scenery as urban landscapes give way to quiet valleys, forests, and snow-covered mountain terrain.

Traveling in comfort, you’ll experience a gradual transition into Norway’s true winter wilderness before arriving at your destination for the day.

Depending on your chosen departure time from Oslo, you may have the option to book an activity upon arrival. Alternatively, take time to settle in and explore Beitostølen at your own pace. This charming mountain village offers a peaceful setting, perfect for a winter walk or simply enjoying the crisp, fresh air.

In the evening, discover the village and choose from one of the local restaurants for a relaxed dinner—your first taste of authentic Norwegian hospitality.

Day 2: Enjoy winter in Norway

On your second day, immerse yourself in the winter wonderland of Beitostølen. Depending on your preferences, you can join a pre-booked activity or simply enjoy a relaxing day surrounded by snowy landscapes.

A variety of activities are available throughout the week—please check the detailed program for specific days and options. You can choose from experiences such as dogsledding, a cross-country skiing course, snowshoeing, ice fishing, horseback riding, or snowrafting.

All activities are guided by professional instructors, ensuring both safety and authentic experiences. They also offer a unique opportunity to meet locals and learn more about this part of Norway and its winter traditions.

In the evening, explore the village at your own pace. You might visit the local swimming pool or spa, and choose from one of the restaurants for a relaxed dinner.

Day 3: Travelling to the Fjords and Flåm Railway

On your third day, you travel from the mountains to the fjords. Begin with a scenic bus ride to Fagernes, where you change buses and continue west. Enjoy the journey through valleys and past frozen lakes, crossing the Filefjell mountain pass before descending toward the Sognefjord—Norway’s longest and most famous fjord.

As you approach the fjord, the landscape changes dramatically. Snow-covered terrain gives way to milder conditions, with steep mountains rising directly from the water.

Upon arrival in Flåm, check in at your hotel before heading out for one of the day’s highlights: the Flåm Railway. This unforgettable journey is considered one of the most scenic rail experiences in the world, offering spectacular views of waterfalls, valleys, and mountain landscapes.

After a full day of travel, enjoy a relaxing evening by the Sognefjord in the charming village of Flåm.

Day 4: Nærøyfjord Cruise, Viking Village & Journey to Bergen 

Today, enjoy a peaceful cruise through the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord aboard a modern electric catamaran. Glide silently through the dramatic fjord landscape, surrounded by steep mountains and frozen waterfalls. Relax in comfortable lounges with a cup of coffee while taking in breathtaking scenery.

After arriving in Gudvangen, you have some hours to visit the Viking Village before boarding the bus towards Bergen.

Your winter journey concludes in the gateway to the fjords — a perfect ending to days filled with mountains, culture and unforgettable Norwegian nature.

Day 5: Explore Bergen 

After a good breakfast, enjoy some time to explore Bergen at your own pace. Known as the gateway to the fjords, Bergen is a charming coastal city surrounded by seven mountains. Stroll through the historic Bryggen wharf, visit local cafés and shops, or take the Fløibanen funicular for panoramic views over the city and harbour. Depending on your onward travel plans, you can enjoy a relaxed final day before departure.

Challenging

The hikes can exceed 2 hours and may last up to 8 hours.  There may be significant ascents, so good physical fitness is required.
You may need to stand for extended periods, hold on, and good strength may be needed.  More than basic technical skills may be required, such as for skiing tours.  Activities are not universally accessible.

Transportation

When travelling with the Fjord Mountain Route, you will use public transport in the form of comfortable coaches, offering a scenic and relaxing journey. The buses are equipped with Wi-Fi, toilet facilities, and charging points for your devices. Drivers are available to assist with any questions along the way. Travelling by public bus is an eco-friendly, reliable, and comfortable way to explore Norway—and a great opportunity to meet locals along the way.

In some cases, you can choose between different departure times to suit your schedule. Please note that this may affect the time you have at each destination, and we always recommend the most suitable option. Some routes do not operate daily, so be sure to consider this when planning your trip.

Along the Fjord Mountain Route, all restaurants serve delicious meals made with local ingredients, offering you a true taste of Norway. If guests have any dietary requirements, these must be submitted with the booking, and all restaurants will accommodate with appropriate dishes.
