Embark on a mesmerizing seven-day summer expedition along the Fjord Mountain Route, embracing the sporty day life of Norwegians in a scenic ride from Oslo to Bergen.
Begin your journey travelling to Bygdin, a charming village high up in the Jotunheim, and from there start exploring on foot, bicycle, kayak and more the beauties of the region; peaks higher than 1500 m.a.s.l., majestic waterfalls, or mountain paths once part of the farm daily life you!

Treat yourself a proper boost of adrenaline with ziplines and discover the hidden life of fjords with kayak tours, and then let your body take a pause with a visit to Viking villages and the second town of the kingdom!!

Day 1

Bus ride to Jotunheimen

Today you will start your Norwegian summer adventure with a scenic bus ride which will take you from the vibrant, modern capital of Oslo towards more laid-back sceneries, in the frame of Fagernes, a little village located in the mountainous region of Jotunheim, from where you will catch the coincidence to Bygdin, a remote village in the heights of the mountain and in which you will be able to step into Norwegian everyday life.
If you're an early bird who caught the bus early, you can start your active vacation with a 1-hour hike to Synshorn, a 1457 meter peak close to your first accommodation, which will give you the first athletic start of your vacation!

Day 2

Hike to Bitihorn

Start your hike straight from Bygdin hotel to Bitihorn, a beautiful summit of 1607 m.a.s.l. with great views. It's a mildly demanding tour which rewards the hikers with extensive views to Jotunheimen, Bygdin and Torfinnstindene in the north-west, and the gentle, wooded hills to the east in Valdres. Not least, you have a fantastic view over the elongated Vinstervannet. The road is marked clearly, and it doesn't have difficulties in particular, but it requires at least 4 hours for the roundtrip.

Day 3

Boat cruise through Jotunheimen, bicycle tour down to Sognefjord

In the morning, embark the M/B Bitihorn, a historic ferry (active since 1909), for a scenic cruise along the lake Bygdin. In this idyllic mountain scenery, guests are able to venture for a stroll in the surroundings, and if you want to enjoy something extra, you can visit Fondsbu, a Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) accommodation providing as well meals or quick snacks; originally named "The happy wanderer", today Fondsbu is more simply a beautiful accommodation in an area of trekking paths, ski trails or simply as a hideaway from modern stress!
At the end of the day, you will catch the bus to Sletterust from where you will be cycling down the Tunnelvegen, a path of 1000 meter of length which rewards you with stunning views of the village of Årdalstangen, where you have your accommodation for the day.

Day 4

Kayaking on Sognefjord

After the adrenaline and the frenzies of the mountains, it's time to discover the hidden side of the fjords; beautiful to see from ferries and boats, perfect to be experienced at a closer distance!
Sea kayak may seem daunting to many, but it allows new perspectives during a period when most of the fjords are buzzing with life, rewarding paddlers with saturated colors, smells and flavors not easily discoverable from ferries and mainland … During this 3-hour activity you will learn how to steer a kayak to the discover of Sognefjord's most tranquil arm, in the beautiful frame of Årdal, village known for its rich history in and aluminum production which still has its importance nowadays. Glide silently on the water, observing the deep hues of blue contrasting the greens of the mountains, and lean your ears to catch the sound of hidden activity under or above the sea!

Day 5

Hike to Vetisfossen

A 275-metres free falling waterfall, Vetisfossen is the natural beauty you visit today. Protected by royal edict since 1924, named after the nearby Vetti farm, and rewarded with the title of "tallest free-falling waterfall in Europe and in Norway". This record is even more valued if we consider that the waterfall is consisting of a single, vertical drop, entirely free-falling, not regulated and flowing with a considerable volume. Take the bus from Klingeberg to Utladalen and enjoy the 2-to-3-hour hike of today, which will bring you to get known with this little gem unknown to the crowds, whose fame and excellence has been immortalized in the book "Under Storen" ("under the big one"), where Vetisfossen carries the definition of "queen". On the way back, take again the bus to your accommodation.

Day 6

Flåms Railway, Zip-Line and bicycle tour

Take the bus from Årdalstangen to Flåm and get ready to get some serious action! Today you'll be experimenting the Flåmsbana, a train trail whose construction required 20 years, due to geographical features. It has fame to be is the steepest standard-gauge railway in Europe, and you will be able to see it with your eyes; mountains dramatically cutting down to valleys, rich and powerful waterfalls, whilst you can enjoy the views from a cushy, cozy and comfy seat in the warmth of the train. After the scenic ride – and a close encounter with locals - get down at Vatnahalsen and prepared to harness your adrenaline with the Flåm zipline, the longest in Scandinavia with a whooping 1381 m. Shoot yourself at 100 km/h, admire the pin-point turns of the old mountain road and reach the valley where you will take the bicycle and spin away in direction of the Flåm Marina, ready to take the connection to Gudvangen, to your next accommodation.

Day 7

Viking village, bus to Bergen

In Gudvangen there have always been several places of worship since pre-Christian times, as the name suggests ("vang" being the noun for open space in front of places of worship, and "Gud" as noun for God), but today locals have recreated a Viking village to remember and celebrate the importance of the place in local history. Wander through the huts and discover how Vikings used to live, work and spent their free time.
After this enriching experience, you will be taking the bus to the second city of the kingdom, Bergen! After a 3-hour ride, you will reach the coastal town which has served as capital city during Medieval times, first center of commerce until 1850 and cultural center of the country; here you will be able to observe a multi-cultural and international environment which gives a vibrant atmosphere wherever you go, perfect closing for this wonderful adventure!
